Anglican service is held at the First Church in Boston.
March 25, 1687
The first Anglican service to be held in a Boston church, it comes about after Gov. Edmund Andros demands use of one of the existing Congregational churches by the “Established Church.” Anglican services are subsequently rotated each week between the two congregations. After one runs longer than usual on Easter Sunday, Samuel Sewall writes, “‘Twas a sad sight to see how full the street was with people, gazing and moving to and fro, because [they] had not entrance into the house.”
